21 days: Colours of Mali


Day 1 : Welcome at the airport of Bamako by Malibou. Overnight stay in Auberge Djamilla.

Day 2 : After the lunch departure to Segou by 4x4. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel Djoliba.

Day 3 : In the morning guided visit of Segou. After the lunch departure to Mopti. Overnight stay in hotel Doux Rêves.

Day 4 : After breakfast guided visit of Mopti; the harbour, the moorings of the pinasses (typical boat of the Niger), the market in the harbour, the handicraft market, the mosque. Lunch in restaurant Yederemé (managed by the association of unmarried mothers of Mopti). In the afternoon continuation of the visit. Sundown and dinner in bar-restaurant Bozo with view on the activities on the banks of the Niger.

Day 5: After breakfast departure for the Dogon country by 4x4. Lunch in Bandiagara, the entry to the cliff. Arrival in Duru. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel Campement.

Day 6-8 :Visit of Dogon country, by foot or by 4x4. Acquaintance with the Dogon-culture and the impressive scenery (waterfalls, baobabs, …). Overnight stay in the Dogon villages.

Day 9 : From the Dogon country to Sévaré: lodging and rest in hotel Oasis.

Day 10-11-12 : After breakfast departure by pinasse to Timbuktu. During this three day boat trip visiting of Peul, Songhaï en Bozo villages on the banks of the River and Lake Débo. Probably you will find all kind of animals like hippos and others. Overnight stays in tents or bivouac on the banks of the river.

Day 13 : Arrival in Koriomé, the harbor of Timbuktu. Accommodation and dinner in hotel Bouctou.

Day 14 : Visit of Timbuktu, the mysterious city: its old mosques, markets and libraries well known because of the ancient manuscripts. After a short siesta in the hotel, a camel ride to a Tamashek village (also possible by 4x4). Traditional evening in Touareg ambiance and a overnight stay in the settlement.

Day 15 : After breakfast departure by camel to the Tamashek encampments of Tesheq and Findria. These Sahel encampments are always built close to a well. The population moves on in function of these wells. Lunch in the shadow of a tree, close to a well so you can experience how people meet each other and how the herds are slaked. At twilight we drive back to Timbuktu and we will enter the town through 'the gate to the dessert'. Dinner in restaurant Amanar.

Day 16 : Trip to lake Faguibine. Dinner at the banks of the lake. Visit of the lakes Fati and Telé. Arrival in Goundam. Dinner and overnight stay in a Tamashek settlement.

Day 17 : Departure by 4x4 direction Sévaré. Lunch in Douentza. Dinner and accommodation in hotel Oasis.

Day 18 : Departure for Djenné. Lunch and guided visit to the town. Dinner and accommodation in hotel Campement.

Day 19 : Departure to Bamako. Arrival early in the evening. Dinner and accommodation in hotel Auberge Djamilla.

Day 20 : Visit of the town: central market, monuments and museum… dinner in town.

Day 21 : After breakfast a trip to the Mandingue mountains. After lunch back to the hotel. After a siesta and shower, shuttle to the airport. Malibou stays with you till the last moment.

Price
A Group of 4 persons: € 2195,- per person
A Group of 2 persons: € 3319,- per person

Included in the price: shuttle from and to airport, trips by 4x4, the ferry and the boat trip, overnight stays with half pension, local guides, a French or English speaking guide all along your trip, mineral water during the displacements.

Not included in the price: the flights, insurance, the drinks with your meals in hotels and restaurants, lunches.

Recommended airlines:
Brussels Airlines goes twice a week directly from Brussels to Bamako.
You also can fly with Air France, Tunis Air and Royal Air Maroc to Bamako.
Point Afrique offers some charter flights.

You can buy a visa for Mali at the Embassy of Mali in Brussels. The vaccination for yellow fever is mandatory.
Don't forget to bring with you repellent for mosquitos, sleeping bag, cotton clothes, casual shoes, your pharmaceutics and sun oil. You don't need to bring your tent with you.
