15 days trip: Mosaic of cultures


Day 1 : Welcome at the airport of Bamako by Malibou. Overnight stay in Auberge Djamilla.

Day 2 : After lunch departure for Segou by 4x4. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel Djoliba.

Day 3 : In the morning a guided visit of Segou. After lunch departure for Mopti. Sundown and dinner in bar-restaurant Bozo with view on the activities on the banks of the river. Overnight stay in hotel Doux Rêves.

Day 4 : After breakfast departure for Dogon land by 4x4. Visit of the villages Sangha, Djiquibombo and Kanikombolé. Lunch in Telli. In the afternoon visit of the village. Dinner and overnight stay in campement.

Day 5 : After breakfast departure by 4x4 for Tireli. Visit of the villages Ende, Yabatalou and Benigmato on the plateau of the Dogon cliffs. Descending by foot. The 4x4 will wait for us in the valley to drive to Tireli along the villages Yawa, Nombori and Komokani. Dinner and overnight stay in the campement of Apomy.

Day 6 : After breakfast we will visit the villages alongside the cliffs up to Yendouma. Dinner and overnight stay in the camp of Emile.

Day 7 : After breakfast departure from Yendouma, direction Hombori. We will stop for a visit of Damassoune, Yenda and Bamba. Lunch in Douentza. Late in the afternoon we will arrive in Hombori. We visit the old settlement of Hombori and 'the hand of Fatima'. This is a massive rock with the shape of a hand of which the 'fingers' rise between 200 and 300 meters into the sky. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel-campement Main de Fatma.

Day 8 : We leave Hombori for Timbouctou via the elephant reserve of Gourma (depending on the season several herds of elephants can be found). We will visit some Tamashek-villages: Iniadiatafane, Bambara Maoundé and Tiboragene. When we arrive at the Niger a ferry will bring us to the other side, so we arrive in the early evening in Timbouctou. Dinner and overnight stay in hotel Bouctou.

Day 9 : Guided visit of the mysterious city. After lunch we take a pinasse (a typical Niger-boat), in the direction of Mopti.

Day 10-11-12 : During the boat trip of three days we will visit Peul-, Songhaï- and Bozo-villages on the banks of the river and on Lac Débo. More likely you will see next to all kind of animals also some hippos. We will sleep in tents on the banks of the river. Arrival in Mopti in the evening of day 12. Overnight stay and dinner in hotel Doux Rêves.

Day 13 : After breakfast a guided visit to Mopti: the harbour, the moorings of the pinasses, the handicraft market, the mosque, the Peul woman of Taikiri, the market of Sougouni. We lunch during the trip (pick-nick). In the afternoon visit of the village Teriya Bugu, dinner and overnight stay in the hotel.

Day 14 : After breakfast we leave for Bamako. We will stop in Segou for lunch. Arrival in Bamako early in the evening.

Day 15 : Visit of the town: central market, monuments and museums. After lunch we will return to the hotel. In the afternoon we drive you back to the airport. Malibou will stay with you till your departure.

A Group of 4 persons: € 1485,- per person

One person: € 3685,-

Included in the price: shuttle from and to airport, trips by 4x4, the ferry and the boat trip, overnight stays with half pension, local guides, a French or English speaking guide all along your trip, mineral water during the displacements.

Not included in the price: the flights, insurance, the drinks with your meals in hotels and restaurants, lunches.

Recommended airlines:
Brussels Airlines goes twice a week directly from Brussels to Bamako.
You also can fly with Air France, Tunis Air and Royal Air Maroc to Bamako.
Point Afrique offers some charter flights.

You can buy a visa for Mali at the Embassy of Mali in Brussels. The vaccination for yellow fever is mandatory.
Don't forget to bring with you repellent for mosquitos, sleeping bag, cotton clothes, casual shoes, your pharmaceutics and sun oil. You don't need to bring your tent with you.
