Many thanks to numerous Ranger friends for their help in the completion of this report, especially to Bud Lomell, who kept pushing me for its completion, and to the Lomell legal office personnel for their help. Ideally, a personal visit to each Ranger for a face to face discussion would have been preferable, but that was not possible.

In addition to Rangers, my other hobby, the sport of rowing, took valuable time from this compilation; the sectional, national and world championships attest to the delay in bringing the report to fruition. Conversely, Rangers took time from rowing.

It was a distinct privilege, and I am proud to have been a member of the 2nd Ranger Battalion, participating in the action covering the period of this report.

The report is dedicated to all of those brave Rangers of the 2nd Ranger Battalion who participated in this action, whether they be living or deceased. And also to Karla, Henry, Peter and Jill.

~~~ Sidney A. Salomon ~~~
Sid Salomon, who won two Silver Stars for heroism and two Purple Hearts for wounds received as a member of the tough 2nd Ranger Battalion that fought its way from Omaha Beach across France, Belgium and Germany, a champion rower on the Schuylkill into his 80s, teacher, patriot and all-around nice guy, died Jan. 21, 2004. He was 90 and lived in Doylestown.
