SUBJECT: Recommendation for Presidential Unit Citation
(Oak Leaf Cluster)
TO: Commanding General, Third United States Army,
APO 403 US Army

Under the provisions of War Department Circular Number 333, dated 22 December 1943, it is recommended that the Oak Leaf Cluster to the Presidential Unit Citation be awarded to the Second Ranger Infantry Battalion for extraordinary gallantry and heroism it displayed in moving against overwhelming superior enemy numbers and fire to seize and hold Hill 400 near Bergstein, Germany, during the period 6th December to 9th December 1944.

a. Second Ranger Infantry Battalion
b. Assignment and capacity at time of action for which award is recommended: the Second Ranger Infantry Battalion was assigned Twelfth Army Group, attached V Corps and further attached to Eighth Infantry Division.
c. Decorations previously awarded: Presidential Unit Citations for actions on D-Day.
d. No decoration has previously been awarded for this act and the Second Ranger Infantry Battalion has not previously been recommended for an award on the basis of this or related acts.
