Presentation
of our animation .
I
build medieval
armors and
my wife
makes
chain mail.
"We would gladly take
part to the
event you
are organising.
Our goal
is to live through the
forgotten acts
of those
old trades
again and share
our passion
for the
Middle Ages with
people of the medieval
events.
We prefer
the didactic
aspect,
our craft
is discussed in
public, and
returned in the
historical context of
medieval society:
evocation of
attitudes, social
structures,
major events
that marked
this barely
known
period of
history therefore
often criticised.
Our animation
evokes civilian
activities and
therefore the
more "human"
side of
life in
the Middle Ages:
we direct
artisans with
their clothing,
their tools
of the time,
and work on our
respective disciplines.
We have
a tent and
penthouses.
Chain
mail work,
The chain mail worker's job.
How to
explain the people's interrest in the chain mail? The crowd in front of
the exposed coat of mail ? The astonishment due to the coat of mail's
weigh? The many questions related to chain mail?
It could be because of making such heavy
iron clothes nevertheless so flexible.
It could be because of the patience and the amount
of hours necessary to this work.
What is sure, is the interrest that the activity
generate.
|
Originally, the chain mail go
back to the Celts in Western Europe.
During middle-age, the chain mail workers
was called
« haubergiers », it was especially womens
and
children were responsible for rings assembling , the cold
part of
work.
|
|
|
The hot part of
work, was reserved to the men ,
at the forge: build
iron wire, make rings.
|
On
events, the chainmail worker:
-
perform rings assembly
- explains to the public, with educational
panels, the technology of the «
4 in 1 »,
called "european chain mail"
- shows other way to assemble the rings: Norman chain
mail, japanese, 6 in 1, 8 in 1, ...
- recounts chain mail 's history, its evolution in
the Middle Ages military equipment
Hauberk
(coat of mail) and chain mail
coif are exposed.
