FoxOring - what does it
mean? FoxOring is a combination of the sport of orienteering and ARDF, better known as foxhunting. Every participant gets a map of the area with 16 locations, each marked by a small circle. On the ground, each circle represents an area with a diameter of about 60 m. Inside every circle the signals from a small transmitter can be heard and located with a radio receiver and a directional antenna. The transmitter may be inside the circle, but may also lie outside it. Unlike classic ARDF transmitters, the signal produced by a FoxOring transmitter is only weak and transmits continuously on 3.580 MHz.
One of the16 transmitters As usual in the orienteering sport, the participants search firstly with the help of the area maps and their compasses for the marked spots on the map, and then they locate the transmitters with their receivers. The transmitters are very well hidden and not marked with a flag. There is only a punch to mark the control card. The transmitters may be found in any order. The participant who can find the most transmitters in the shortest time is the winner and deserves honour and glory! Participants who exceed the maximum running time of 3 hours are placed lower down on the score list, according their running time. Therefore it is better to find 1 transmitter in time, than 16 out of time. At the start a test transmitter is provided to aid tuning the receiver and listening to a signal before running. At the start and finish there is also a transmitter signalling the letters "MO" in Morse code on 3.530 MHz to make it easier to find the start and finish again. This transmitter is more powerful and has a range throughout the area.a |
