Since the beginning of my Ph.D. project at the university, I travel between my home place, Kalmthout (close to the Dutch border) and Leuven (near Brussels), a distance of about 70 km. I do this by train, making full use of the services of the Belgian Railways, also known as NMBS.
Every weekday during the last six years (with few exceptions) I traveled between Kalmthout and Leuven in the morning and back home in the evening. Also, every morning and evening, I wrote down the hour of arrival. This gave me the opportunity to compare it to the official hours, as they are in the books and on the NMBS-website.
These pages primarily contain detailed and summarized information about my personal and everyday experiences with the trains, based on the data mentioned before. Information is separated in different periods that differ with respect to the official timetables as presented and used by the NMBS.
The epilogue contains a summary of all these data, and the final page contains
some useful railway related links; this part is still regularly updated. If you
for instance want to take a train in Malaysia, you'll find the official
timetables here.
