Grenade

Inter-Bellum

From 1919 to 1924, the 2nd Grenadiers formed part of the occupying army in Germany.
On February 9, 1926 a moving ceremony was held in the main courtyard of the Prince Albert barracks. In the presence of the former commanding officers of the 2nd Grenadiers. The "Last Post" was followed by a final salute to the colours by the men of 2nd Grenadiers while the military music of the 1st Grenadiers played "You reappear". That afternoon, the flag was put in the care of the Royal Army Museum and on February 13, 1926, the 2nd Grenadiers Regiment ceased to exist.

On June 21, 1930, the flag of 2nd Grenadiers obtained the battle honour "ANTWERP".
Because of this fourth battle honour (the three others are: YZER, STEENSTRAAT and PASSCHENDAELE) Grenadiers of the 2nd Regiment have the right to carry the distinguishing mark of the order of Léopold.

A remark concerning the battle honour for STEENSTRAAT (OJA N 1573 of November 27, 1918) is necessary. The 2nd Grenadier Regiment did not take part as a unit in the battle of Steenstraat, as it had been amalgamated with the 1st Grenadiers on November 7, 1914 following the severe losses suffered in the previous heavy fighting. When the regiments split again on December 24, 1916 it was thought to be wrong to deprive the 2nd Grenadiers of the Steenstraat honour. Thus both units have the battle honour on their colours.
