MECHELEN , situated between Antwerp and Brussels, once was the capital of the Burgundian Netherlands. During the 16th century the "Seignory of Mechelen" was the smallest autonomous province out of the 17 Provinces. Nowadays, Mechelen; Bonheiden, Putte, Sint - Katelijne - Waver and Willebroek are included within the seignory's present-day geotouristic outline. The emanation of this region is mainly due to Mechelen's centuries-old cultural patrimony.
