Birding in Colombia

Colombia has the highest biodiversity in the world. With only 1/125 th of the worlds surface, it holds 1/8 th of its biodiversity. Colombia is n°1 in # bird species, 2nd (after Brazil, but before Indonesia) in # plant species (55000 species), 4th in # mammal species (nearly 500 species), 3rd in reptiles (500 species) and n°1 in amphibians (500 species).

But Colombia has a bad reputation. It rarely comes positive in the news. However things have changed dramatically under president Uribe. Colombia is becoming safer every year.
Many regions are even safer than neighbouring countries.
When receiving emails from people who have visited Colombia, they all were very delightful about their time in Colombia.
Also when I bring tourists to Colombia, some are a bit scared in te beginning. But after a week or so they feel sometimes too safe.
In Colombia there is a lot to see (lots of top birds), but please stick to the safe areas.

Another good point is that nearly all places are easy accessible by public transport.
This site gives you information about the places you can visit.
But in case you have limited time, it is a good idea to join one of the economic trips I organise.
