2006 Beaufort

During the summer of 2006 we visited the triennial art event "2006 Beaufort" together with Toby & Terry. The Flemish Coast is during this event the place to be for anyone interested in contemporary art. In each coastal town some works can be seen. Most of these works are on the beach so it is the excursion to do with our doggies. Below are some pictures from De Panne to Zeebrugge...

[De Panne]

Bart De Zutter - A huge lime-tree transformed into a boat.

Andries Botha - You can buy my heart and my soul.

A little herd of wooden elephants on the border of art and handicraft.

[Koksijde-Oostduinkerke]

Jane Alexander - Little figures with animal-masks...

... inhabit a barge.

[Nieuwpoort]

Ilya and Emilia Kabakov - The Fallen Sky.

[Middelkerke-Westende]

Luc "Kamagurka" Zeebroek - A huge altercanvas with biblical figures.

Tom Claassen - Liggende man (Lying man).

David Cerny - Baby's...

... dolls on all fours with big heads and black bodies.

[Oostende]

Louise Bourgeois - Maman (Mother)...

... a huge pregnant spider overshadows the tomb of James Ensor.

[Bredene]

Joep Van Lieshout - Body Bar suns...

... and has hinges, thus the work acts as...

... a bar around which people gather.

[Wenduine]

Luk Van Soom - Noli mi tangere ('don't touch me'); a 12 meter high tree.

[Blankenberge]

Nigel Hall - Crossing.

The sculptures on each side of the harbour-entrance are connected close to each other...

... two similar signs, one vertical...

... the other horizontal.

Stephan Balkenhol - Das Schiff.  A boat seems to be stranded on the pier during a flood...

Two reliefs decorate the flanks with anonymous lying man- and womanfigure.

[Zeebrugge]

Jean Bilquin - The man who saw the boat, in the air.

A reference to the ship and the shipping.

A boat, towering the beach, reaching for the sky.

Michael Ray Charles - The Three Graces refer to the Ku Klux Klan.

[Knokke-Heist]

Michael Parekowhai - The song of the frog. The swan-song of a ballet-dancer who is nestling softly...

In spite of her huge dimensions she's fragile and elegant.

Zhan Wang - Floating Mountain of  Immortals. A reproduction of the Chinese 'Holy Mountain'.

Just like the previous edition "2003 Beaufort" is was worth the visit this year. Beautiful weather and lots of sand, that's all Toby & Terry need and their bosses got a big portion of art on top of it. We'll be back in three years!
