De Syrische Arabische Republiek is gelegen in het Midden-Oosten. Damascus is de hoofdstad. Syrië heeft een bevolking van 16.696.500 inwoners. De totale oppervlakte van Syrië bedraagt 185.180 km². Het land heeft een Middellands Zeeklimaat.

Doel van de reis

Minister Louis Michel is in Syrië om een coalitie aan te gaan tussen Europa en het Midden-Oosten tegen het internationaal terrorisme.

Foreign minister farouk al Shara held on Thursday a joint press conference with Belgian Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Luis Michel, Spanish Minister of State for External Affaires ,Miguel Nadal Segala,and EU High Representative for Policy and Common Security Javier Solana,and EU Commissioner for External Relations.Christopher Patten.
