28 December 1944.

Command group of Regimental Headquarters moved to Sinsin (P 232891) at 0830, closed at 0930. 2nd battalion moved to Buissonville (P 191828) closing at 1200; 3rd battalion moved to Les Basses (P 219866) closing at 1010. 1st battalion remained in position. All battalions engaged in construction of defensive works. 908th Field Artillery, Company C, 772nd Tank Destroyer Battalion and Company C, 774th Tank Battalion in support. At 2310, Regimental Commanding Officer received instructions to report at Division command post at 0830, 29th to make reconnaissance to east. No casualties.

29 December 1944.

At 0900, regiment was alerted to move on order to reinforce 3rd Armored Division. Regiment moved with assistance of 97 Quartermaster trucks. Regiment (less supporting units) cleared IP (P 219891) at 1745 and closed in vicinity of Biron (P 3992) at 2015. Regiment passed to control of 3rd Armored Division at 2015. At close of period, units were distributed as follows:

30 December 1944.

All battalions prepared and organized defensive positions in the areas assigned and occupied the previous evening. Work was begun on foxholes, gun positions, road blocks and obstacles. Plans were made for laying of mine fields. General trace of defensive position-line south of the road from Hotton (P 3788) to Erezee (P 4390). Reconnaissance was made by the Regimental Commander of positions being organized and for alternate positions. No hostile activity.

31 December 1944.

Battalions continued work on the regimental reserve line from Hotton to Erezee. CCB, 3rd Armored Division began its withdrawal from sector at 0850. One (1) rifle platoon of Company K was sent to Hotton during the withdrawal. Control of 331st Infantry, passed to 83rd Infantry Division at 1200. During hours of darkness, mines were laid in 3rd battalion area. At 2240, an accident occurred among mine laying party in 1st battalion. Sixteen were injured and five killed, of these one killed and five wounded were from Anti-Tank Company, the balance from Company C, 308th Engineers. The cause of the accident not determined. Thus ended the year 1944. The regiment had been in the field active against the enemy since 27 June 1944, having landed at Omaha Beach on 23 June 1944, taken part in campaigns in Normandy, Brittany, along the Loire River, Luxembourg, Germany (Hurtgen Forest to Roer River) and in Belgium.
