went to study to become a teacher, but my Sociology studies at the I
joined VHAM in July 2001. “I’m
convinced that VHAM can make the difference for the backward people,
especially in our beautiful Pammanik project and in a way that the people of Pammanik can actually look back with pride and say that
they are the ones who did it !”. |

Voluntary
Health Association of Meghalaya (VHAM) is
working since 1976 for community health.
The programmes are directed towards Health Education and Social
Activities. VISION: To make health a reality for the people of Meghalaya. MAIN
OBJECTIEVES: ·
To take up
Health Education programmes ·
To
disseminate and exchange health information upto
the grassroot level ·
To promote
the indigenous systems of medicine ·
To study
trends and developments in the field of health ·
To invite
people’s active participation in the field of health ·
To involve
the grassroots organizations of the community and local organizations as well PAST EXPERIENCES: ·
Targetted intervention
in the society on issues of Substance Abuse and HIV/AIDS ·
Reduction of
common ailments, immunization through health and medical camps ·
Education on
malaria, small family norms, alcoholism, drug addiction, STD/HIV/AIDS and
other health related issues ·
Trained
traditional birth attendants and village level health workers ·
Teachers have
been given orientation in School Health with follow-up activities ·
Publication
of health newsletter “Hamari Chitthi
Aapke Naam” in local
language ·
Organization
of seminars, workshops and meetings on health issues ·
Encouraging the
construction of low cost latrines and improves the sanitation conditions in
rural areas VHAM manages the: Health & Village Development Project - Pammanik,
Meghalaya 2004 – 2007 – 2011 – 2014 VHAM
is a mother NGO, this means that it assists local NGOs in Meghalaya. It has also a close relationship with our
