note 1 : orange darvic rings with a black combined letter, number or sign code, repeated three times around the ring, always read from top downwards. A few hundred rings were used from 1995 to 2004 on one of the legs and a metal ring (always overlapped) on the other leg.

note 2 : a small number (10) of black darvic rings holding two letters, read from top downwards were used from 1999 to 2002 on birds ringed at the same nest.

note 3 : it is important to note on which of the legs, from the bird point of view, the colour rings were seen.

To the left: examples of black codes on orange rings as seen through a scope on a perched Osprey ringed in 2003. The code is repeated three times around the ring. 32 chicks were ringed on the right leg in 2003.

note 1: Ospreys ringed in Germany as nestlings during 1995-1999 have one colour-ring with a two-letter-code (two upright letters diagonal to one another, the first one being the upper letter, the second one being the lower letter : A/A, A/B, A/C etc..) on one leg and one metal (mostly clip-) ring of the ringing centre on the other leg. It is important to report on which leg the colour ring is (from birds view). Unfortunately some colours (red) have faded already, so ring-colour might not be easily detectable, sorry.

note 2: Ospreys ringed in Germany as nestlings during 2000-2004 have one black ring with a alpha-numeric code (one upright letter, two digits turned left, read from the bottom to the top: A/01, A/02, A/03 etc..) on one leg and one metal (mostly clip-) ring of the ringing center on the other leg. it is still important to report on which leg the colour ring is (from bird's view).

note 2 : small numbers of birds carry transmitters (radio or satellite transmitters).

note 1: the metal ring is situated on the right leg and one colourring is used as a control-combination at the right leg (either above the metal ring ). The left leg has always a combination or two colourrings (red, orange, yellow, white, black, dark blue or dark green).

note 2: several birds of this project have sat-transmitters.
