Nasal saddles (and nasal discs).

note 1 : The yellow nasal saddles are used recently (since 2007) with black letters/symbols. The different or rarely the same symbols are used in left and right side of saddle. There are no characters on the top of saddle.
Unfortunately, we have found that these saddles can temporally change colour from white to yellow, orange or brown probably due to influence of special conditions of eutrophic waters.

note 2 : All caught ducks are marked also by colour plastic rings (single or combination): blue, light blue, green, pink, red, orange, white, yellow on left or right leg. All bird can by independently identify by nasal saddle or by colour rings.

note 3 : The project is carried out in the breeding sites in Trebon Biosphere Reserve and adjacent areas, South Bohemia, Czech Republic (49°00'-49°13'N,14°44'-14°52'E) since 1998.  For details (aims, methods, markers, pictures, results etc.) see: http://www.mujweb.cz/veda/aythya/
