Coordination
of ring colour and code is necessary, otherwise
-
with the exponential booming of cr-projects
colour-ring
birding runs into a disaster !!
Important message
for all researchers.
Because
of the limited number of combinations (codes and colours) and the current high
number of projects actually using or intending to use colour marks,
coordination of all colour ring schemes is obligatory.

guidelines on the use of colour markings
In order to increase coordination between projects and
to get all the information to the central database,
- before using
colour-rings a national
- only use colour-rings as
additional marking to the official rings of the national
-
- EURING is on the way to find coordinators for all species (species group). This coordinators have to be contacted before
starting a c-ring program. The coordinators in close cooperation with the national
ring scheme give the ring (colours, code) combinations to the ringers.
- in an area there should be
only a single project for each species to make it easier for observers to
report the rings to the right projects.
-
-
- the most important thing is that you NEVER start a colour
note
from European colour-ring Birding.
-
if a not registered cr-project is announced to
the European colour-ring Birding website, it will be mentioned with a severe
remark. In a next stadium it will be banned.
- ALL colour-ringed birds which are
ringed and/or (re)sighted in a country and can be identified as individuals
MUST be reported to the Ringing Unit of the country. Hereby the list of these institutes, belonging
to and agreed by EURING. It is the coercive task for the colour-ringer/project
leader to report his project(s) and resightings to his national scheme. This is
a legal requirement and condition of being issued with a license to colour-ring
birds.

You can contact me in English, Dutch, French and German on
To
the project leaders/researchers,
for receiving
a quick update on this site, read the EURING guidelines and do please
use this demo-page
with your project data, mentioning the concerned species into the subject of
your mail. This means for me just copy/paste.
Sending
your information in another way will cause extra of my precious volunteer-time
and longer waiting before being online. Thanks ahead.
