__________________________________________________________________________________________ Achille, born on 30 august 1934, retired in 1996. During his professional career, he worked as a representative for a company specialised in electrical materials. In 1956, he started racing pigeons on a small scale, turning it later into a succes story. Peter, born on 19 july 1965, is specialised in informatics. Since he was a child, Peter has joined his father in racing pigeoins. Because at the Vervoort's place, racing pigeons, is done as a family sport, we may not forget to mention mother Lizette. From the beginning, she was (and is still) responsable for cleaning out the cabins, on a daily basis. When Achille was still active as a representative, and therefor most of the day being away from home, she fully took care of the pigeons. Each year, around 120 pigeons are kept during Winter, around the same number of males and females. The breeding cabin consists of 20 couples. One couple breeds 8 or 10 youngsters a year. Specialised on middle distance and middle long distance with old and one year old birds, we play only the males. Four cabins with males for racing the pigeons make in total around 40 male racing pigeons, of which between 15 and 20 yearlings. On two cabins for young birds, 80 to 100 young pigeons are kept and trained. These birds get tested as much as possible on the middle distance races. With all the birds, the whole middle distance racing season, is done. The males are more spared for later, but nevertheless, we try to let them do at least 3 middle distance races, to get minimum experience, and also being able to do a certain selection. As you can see on the results pages, in the 80's and 90's, we played exclusively the middle distance races in "Union Antwerpen", "Centraal Hafo Verbond" and in "Grensverbond". In 2000,2001 and 2002, we tried to specialize with our old pigeons on the middle long distance, especially on the famous Provincial races in Antwerp. These go from Bourges (490 km) untill Limoges (650 km). That worked out very well in the first years. But with the withdrawel of the interprovicial contests with the province of East-Flanders, it was simply not possible any more to play decent results in the western side of our province. So this year and also the upcoming years, the emphasis will be put back on the middle distance races.
