The story begins in 1956, when Achille started a small cabin, playing the local sprint races.  After a few successes locally, he wanted more.  During the 60's, he tried his success on the middle distance races in "Union Antwerpen".   The best results were done by hens racing for their eggs or youngsters.  In 1968, he became first champion with the hens in "Union Antwerpen".  The base of these pigeons was built with races from some local champions as Philips Jef from Berendrecht, Jacobs Gerard from Zandvliet and Eduard Van de Sande from Berendrecht.   Furthermore, added with names as Pepermans from Zemst and Van den Bossche from Berlaar.

A first real top year was 1971.  This year was really a break thru to the top.  One first prize with the old birds and 5 first prizes with the hens on the middle distance races of "Union Antwerpen", brought the name Vervoort between the champions.   That year, he became also first champion with the female birds.  The 1971 season was ended with a gigantic success.  On the national race from Argenton for young birds, the first prize was won.  This pigeon was named the "MERCKX".  The year after, he was not played any more, but became a decent breeder.  Another top pigeon, was the female bird named "ANNEKE".  She won that year the first prize on the race from Corbeil also in "Union Antwerpen".

Still based on the same base of pigeons, a top pigeon was bred in 1975 named "TREESKE". This pigeon showed herself as a real champion from 1976 on.  During the second half of the 7O's, several poules of 1000 were won in "Union Antwerpen".  She won multiple first prizes with the hens and not only on middle distance races. On an extremely tough La Souterraine, only five birds reached its home the same day, "TREESKE" was one of them. "TREESKE" became after her racing career, also a very successfull breeding bird.  We can state that she is one of the main sources of the current Vervoort-race.

Out of "TREESKE" a male pigeon was raised, that became also one of the main sources of the current race. Allthough, the emphasis laid on the races with hens, this bird could show its qualities.   Soon he was kept as a breeder, to maintain this line of pigeons as much as possible.    He was named  "POST".

Early the 80's, two direct Janssens Arendonk pigeons were bought at Gust Daelemans from Halle Zoersel. These birds were coupled to each other and that seemed to be a lucky shot.  In this way, we tried to maintain the Janssens line fully, and it worked out.  Another main source of the current race was bred out of this couple, named "GREET".   In the mean time, racing with female birds was replaced by racing with male pigeons.

The successes made during the 80's, were fully based on pigeons bred out of the coupling of "POST" x "GREET". This was a combination of the own line linked to the Janssens race.     In 1986 en 1988 the vice-chamionship was won in the famous "Union Antwerpen". Main pigeons of this period were "LUBBERDING" and "LIBOTON".  These two birds bred out of the golden couple, really won magnificent results.  In 1988 they both raced the National Bourges in August.  They made both top 7 provincial and top 30 national.

Due to the fact that "Union Antwerpen" expanded to the east side of the province Antwerp, we decided to play in another club named "Grensverbond".  From the first year, we became first champion with the old birds, together with some first prizes.  

In this period, other important purchases were done.  Three pigeons were bought at the famous cabin of Flor Engels and sons.  Especially the "HINAULT", a dark male, brought very good pigeons.   His mother was the sister of the Sporky of Van Hove Uytterhove from Putte.    At the cabin of Daems en Zoon from Bevel, in that time a formation with top pigeons, a male was bought called the  "RAES" and at the famous Gebroeders Van Laer a blue hen, named "LEEN".  Furthermore, two hens at Heylen Emiel from Nijlen, the first one in 1986, named "RIA",  and the second in 1988,  named "GRETA".  "RIA" was a daughter of the famous "Goede Lichte" of Emiel.  These pigeons combined with the existing line of Janssens (see "GREET") and the own bred line (see "POST") brought the pigeons that made the successes in the early 90's.

In this period (from 1992 to 1994) we raced in the "Centraal Hafo Verbond" situated in "het Waasland", the west of Antwerp city.   We made such magnificant results,  that by the end of 1994, this union decided not to allow us anymore to participate in their races.  In 1992, we became first champion with the old pigeons.  In 1993, we became first champion globally of the union (old+yearl.+youngsters) and also won the chamionship with old pigeons and yearlings.  On top of that, the "VANDERAERDEN/89"  became first ace pigeon with the old pigeons.   Other top pigeons in these years were the "CRIC/92", "BONTEMPI/91", "LEMOND/91",  "MARTINEZ/89" and "DE WOLF/90".   In the pedigrees of these pigeons, you will find back all the previously named breeding-pigeons.

Because in 1995, we were not allowed anymore to participate the races from the "Centraal Hafo Verbond", we played again in the "Grensverbond".   From this moment on, we worked on the change over to the long middle distance races.  Chamionships were not won, but there was no lack of good results. The year 1995, can also be called a disaster year.  On 1 day (10/06), 3 top pigeons were lost : "CRIC/92", "ALCALA/94" and "BAFFI/93".  Best pigeons from the mid 90's were the  "BAFFI/93", "BUGNO/93", "KONYCHEV/94", "ALCALA/94", "ANDERSON/93", "THUREAU/94".   "VANDERAERDEN/89" and "BUGNO/93" became also splendid breeding pigeons.

In the mid 90's, again we expanded the cabin.   Three pigeons were bought at the cabin of  Gust Christiaens from Humbeek.    Especially the hen "RENILDA" developed herself as a fantastic breeding hen.  She was coupled to a male pigeon bought from the combination Baeck John and Jan from Brasschaat, named the "SIMPSON".  We can call this couple a golden breeding couple.   They brought, the "MERCKX/95" (in the meantime also a breeding pigeon, because he came home injured), "ZANOLI/96", "ZULLE/97" and "TAFI/97".   Other top pigeons are the "SORENSEN/97", "GIANETTI/95",   "FONDRIEST/95", "BALLERINI/97", "PANTANI/98".

Another line brought into the existing race comes from Somers René from Oelegem.   First a male pigeon called "ULLRICH", and afterwards two hens named "ELVIRE" and "NELE".  Also this line has proven to be a really good expansion of the cabin.  Take a look at the pedigrees and the results of these pigeons currently on the racing cabin : "OLANO/99", "BOGERD/98" and "DUFAUX/99". The last one made the achievement to be the fastest pigeon of the whole province of Antwerp on the middle distance race of Dourdan, early May this year.

2000, can be called the breakthru year on the long middle distance races in Antwerp.  On the race out of Chateauroux of 17/06 we made really a fantastic achievement.   In the category of the old pigeons, we made the victory in the "Kempische Fondclub" and from the 9 pigeons competing, 7 made it in the top-100 of 1661 pigeons.

Two new breeding pigeons were bought, a female from Santens Brothers - Oudenaerde called "MORGAN/99", and a male pigeon from Dirk Leemans - Hoevenen, "MOSER/97", a pigeon which had achieved good results. 

In 2000,2001 and 2002, we tried to specialize with our old pigeons on the middle long distance, especially on the famous Provincial races in Antwerp.  These go from Bourges (490 km) untill Limoges (650 km).  That worked out very well in the first years.  But with the withdrawel of the interprovicial contests with the province of East-Flanders, it was simply not possible any more to play decent results in the western side of our province.   So this year we decided to race the middle distance races of Grensverbond, the Antwerp union with most birds in the weekly contests.   This went extremely well, allthough the fowl plague took half of the season (see achievements pages).

Best race birds of last three years, are "ATHOS" and "ABEL", both bred out of the super breeding couple "SIMPSON" x "RENILDA".   Unfortunately, we lost Abel on a bad flight out of Bourges in 2003.   To complete the list, we name "CHICO", becoming 3rd ace pigeon, "CRACK", becoming 5th ace pigeon, "CALYPSO" and "CADET".
