Lords of metal

Let's start with a quiz question: who has ever heard of a guy named Kurt Vereecke? That won't be too many I assume, but this situation will change dramatically after the release of this Frozen Rain record I hope! Keyboard player Kurt Vereecke is an enormous fan of traditional A.O.R.-music and had in 1994 the opportunity with his band Rhyana to sign a record deal with the German label Long Island Records, but this company went bankrupt shortly thereafter. After this disappointment Kurt has been busy with writing music and books for children for a number of years.

But, blood is thicker than water and Kurt still had the dream of creating a truly great A.O.R. record.
Already in 2001 he started with the preparations for this and during the last couple of years the twelve songs on 'Frozen Rain' were shaped. With the cooperation of a large number of guest musicians, among which the Swedish top musician Tommy Denander, all tracks were recorded and after finding the right record deal with the new label Avenue Of Allies Music, Kurt's dream has become reality. Provided with great artwork (by LoM-colleague Eddy Meuwese) 'Frozen Dream' is available for everybody now and it has to be said that everybody who adores pure eighties A.O.R. can, no MUST get this record! All twelve tracks are catchy, have beautiful keyboard parts, tasteful guitar solos, fantastic background vocals (in the vein of Treat) and, it has to be said, mighty fine lead vocals. I was not aware of the fact that there's so much vocal talent in the Benelux area, but Johan Waem, Ollie Oldenburg, Peter de Zutter and Maurice Saelmans have truly been able to convince me of this. Especially the latter has impressed me with his contribution on the very catchy 'Music Keeps Me Alive'.

But it wouldn't do the rest of the material enough justice to pick out songs which are above the very high average quality level, because all twelve songs are very much worthwhile listening to and it has been a long time ago that I've heard such a good, pure A.O.R. record. Therefore I truly hope that Kurt Vereecke and Frozen Rain won't remain the best kept secret from Belgium. On the basis of what I've heard on this debut album 'Frozen Rain' it must be possible to compete with the bigger acts within the genre. This is music that puts you in a happy mood and is a true A.O.R.-fan's wet dream!
