Out Magazin - June 2009
1. Kurt give our readers some more information
about Frozen Rain.
The
first Frozen Rain album was more or less a kind
of ‘project’ album.
During all the years playing as a musician I met some very talented
musicians who became good friends. Working on a project like Frozen
Rain gave me the ideal opportunity to work together with all of
them which wouldn’t have been possible when I played in a
band. You can find the list of all musicians involved at the Frozen
Rain website & also in the booklet of the CD of course.
2.
I often read that Frozen Rain was your personal dream of making
a real great AOR CD?
Absolutely.
The making of this album is indeed something I’ve always dreamed
about. After having several setbacks in the past I was even more
determined to reach my goal, the making of an AOR album. Back in
1994
I already had a record deal with Long Island Records
but because of the fact the label broke up I didn’t have the
chance to release an album then. When I look back at it now it has
been better that things went that way cause now I was able to work
in better conditions and make a better album. I was also very lucky
that I have met Gregor Klee of Avenue of
Allies Music who believed in my music. Right from the start
I had a very good feeling with Avenue of Allies Music and they have
already proven to be the perfect label for Frozen Rain.
3.
Over all Frozen Rain was a real fine one, are YOU satisfied with
the work?
It
isn’t a ‘big budget’ album and most of it has
been recorded in my home studio but I must say I’m very pleased
with the way the album turned out. I listen to the album again from
time to time and there isn’t one single thing I would change.
The songs sound the way I want, I had the chance to work with some
of my personal idols and my friend Eddy Meuwese
has made some exellent artwork for the album. So... I’m a
happy guy. What makes me even more happier are the nice comments
about the album I receive from fans all over the world. Even now,
and the album is out for a while, new people are still discovering
the Frozen Rain CD and send me kind mails & messages. It’s
nice to know all the hard work wasn’t for nothing.
4.
You work with some real fine musicians together, how did it work
Kurt and how you will bring them together?
While
I was working on the album more & more musicans got involved
in the Frozen Rain project. I never thought I would have the chance
to work with some of my personal idols like Tommy Denander
or Steve Newman so I don’t
have to tell you how much it means for me to have these great musicians
playing on my album. Tommy even believes that he has played some
of his better guitar solos on the Frozen Rain CD. I still remember
the moment I added Tommy’s guitars to the rest of the music.
It sounded like magic in my ears. The first Frozen Rain album was
a ‘project’ album and there are no plans to bring all
these musicians together for playing live. Most of them have their
own bands and live in different countries. It would simply be impossible.
5.
Did you write all songs Kurt?
Yes,
most of the songs have been written by myself. For two songs I’ve
worked together with the Swedish lyricist Andy Flash
and the tracks ‘Never be a fool again’ &
‘On the run’ I have written with Erik Van Bers
who was the guitar player in my previous band Rhyana. The
song ‘Park Café’ has been written with
André Vlerick who’s an old school
mate . I’ve always liked the lyrics of ‘Park Café’
because of the positive message and feeling and decided to make
a song of it.
6.
I can’t find any song that I didn’t like because of
many great songs like RED LIGHT ZONE..do you have any favourite
Tracks Kurt?
In
fact all songs on the album are special for me one way or another.
It means so much to me to have them finally all together on one
album. Every song has its special moments for me. When I listen
to the songs I always think back to the recording sessions and remember
how much fun we had in my recording studio.. I’ve always loved
a song like ‘Waiting for you’. It is the eldest
song on the album. There’s also a very positive message in
that song. It’s a song about friendship and being there for
each other in good and bad days.
7. How long did it take to realize Frozen Rain?
Everything
all together it must have been about six years from the first recordings
till the final mastering.
Of course I didn’t work on the album the whole time. I have
a busy daytime job and family life which means
I mostly had to work on the album during my holidays. Working with
so many different musicians of several countries asked a lot of
organization and the search for the singers also took me two years.
8.
I hope there will come a second one like this?
Well,
then I have some very good news for you cause I’m already
working on album number two. In fact several new tunes are written
and for three songs all instrumental parts are already recorded
as well. The biggest difference between the first album and the
second one will be the fact that Frozen Rain has become a real band
now instead of a project. I’m handling the keyboards and bass
guitar. My brother Hans Vereecke plays the drums
and on guitar there is Rik Priem. Rik is a very
experienced guitar player. He’s also a guitar teacher and
technician which means he knows his instrument very well. I’m
very happy that I have finally found the ideal guitar player for
Frozen Rain. I’m sure many people will look up when they hear
the new Frozen Rain sound. The new material still sounds very melodic
which is typical for Frozen Rain but the guitars are more powerful
and heavier this time. Personally I love the new sound a lot ! Probably
we will use only one lead singer this time. There’s a good
chance it will be a well known rock singer but it’s a bit
too soon to reveal a name right now.
9.
So Kurt at least tell us more about your plans for the near future
and your wishes about, and thanks a lot for the interview?
The
next coming years Rik & I hope to write many new catchy tunes
and our ultimate goal is to make an album that is even better than
the first one. For interested people updates about the latest developments
will appear from time to time at the official Frozen Rain site www.frozenrain.be
and at our My Space page www.myspace.com/frozenrain
