Founded
by the late Fanny Thibout, of Liège origine, professor in body expression and
rhytm, the dance company started in 1936 by a collaboration with a Liège choir
" A Capella " for a folklore festival in Nice, France.

«Folklore is
living at the most intense scale». That is the way La
Compagnie Folklorique Fanny Thibout and les Tiesses
di Hoye (coal heads) represent in Belgium and abroad the traditional
dances, games and songs from the french-speaking part of Belgium. |
Since 1936 Fanny Thbout searched the Walloon provinces, especially the
Ardennes, Condroz and the Land of Herve to look for old dances and tunes still
known by the old people. After 1945 Fanny took up her pilgrim's staff again and
founded " La Compagnie Folklorique " in its present form.
In 1970 she was co-founder of CIOFF and later she was elected honora ry
member of this organisation
In 1974, during the Year of the Childhood, she started the children's group
" Les Tiesses di Hoye ", thus recreating the folklore of the children.
Since
1946 « La Compagnie Folklorique Fanny Thibout » and « Les
Tiesses di Hoye » have strolled through Europe. But they have also made
presentations in Japan in 1972, in the USA in 1976, in Puerto Rico in 1978 and
1982, in Canada in 1986 and in Turkey in 1993.
