Dark
and strange tendencies - fascinating creations for some...
In creating and presenting this work, I primarily used paper mache, dead
animals and other nice things. I believe many exciting possibilities
exist with this mixed media, highlighting contradictions such as humour and fear, beauty and decay ... Personally, I find both the animal
and the human aspect -dead or alive- fascinating and artistically
stimulating. I derive my main inspiration from life's colourful characters and experiences, the male nude,
animals and the art of taxidermy.
None of any species were deliberately
killed in order to facilitate the process, I have a small collection
of found bones/antlers/skulls, including things scavenged from roadkill
using native techniques to preserve them.
Through diverse materials I explore themes of fetish, physical form and distortion, fantasy and an allusion to the construction of identity, a correspondance between the real and the uncanny. |
