Record Review - The Triffids - 'Field of Glass'
Three tracks taken from the Peel session of last year, but they don't show the band at their best. As has been noted before, The Triffids do sound a lot like The Doors at times and the title track is a prime example. Apart from that drawback it's also far too long, and contrasts unfavourably with the other two songs, the exceptional, 'Bright Lights, Big City' and 'Monkey on my back', which both manage to create the threat and clarity which is the real Triffids, without ever becoming rambling or self-indulgent. It's still a record well worth having, but nothing they've done on vinyl has ever been quite as good as 'Beautiful Waste', unfortunately only available on import.
