Being Earnest
DNA-magazine 7 November 2000
It is with great pleasure that I can tell you about the
best cartoon book available to humanity - Oscar Wilde's Importance Of
being Earnest has been translated into a modern gay romance by Belgium
cartoonist Tom Bouden. The original Wildian text reamains
unaltered, with one execption, that young men play the parts of young
ladies in Wilde's play - a change Wilde surely wouldn't have
minded. The result is an astonishingly modern gay scene of
London. A hilarious homage to Oscar Wilde.
I can't praise this book enough, Tom's drawing style is
lovely and I know it's a bit sad but you can't help fancying quite a few
of his characters! It is a very funny book that would make a great
stocking filer or present to cheer someone up and if you like
cartoons then it's an absolute must have.
