Biography

The BLACKBIRDS - American Roots Music

The Blackbirds started out in 1996 as a band with four friends from the same hometown with J.B. Biesmans on vocals, harmonica and saxophone - Rudolph Nevi, guitars and vocals - Luc Huygen, drums and percussion and Bird Stevens on Fender bass.

They were sharing the same ideas about music and the guys liked to write rock & bluessongs together.

With an influence of Blues, Country, Rock 'n' Roll, Tex-Mex, Jazz and music from the fifties The Blackbirds created an own style and called it  "American Roots Music".

At the end of 1997 the band released an X-Mas mini album which was a local hit and got a lot of airplay on the radio. One year later there was the first single-CD as a forerunner of the full album which came out in 1999 as "The Blackbirds".

Press, radio and public were wildly enthusiastic about The Blackbirds recordings and live performance.

In the year 2002 The Blackbirds said goodbye to live-gigs and decided to continue working as a studio band. But no regrets, the new album "Diner Dolls" is a farewell-gift to the live-audience and their fans and a posthumous homage of The Blackbirds to their idols of the Fifties and Sixties.
