Steven De Baecke (° Gent,1969) was taught his first flute lessons at the academy of music in Ledeberg.

He then continued his studies at the Lemmensinstituut in Louvain, at first in the department high school of music, later in the master cycle.


In 1991 he got his bachelors degree with Roland Vanden Berghe (flute) and with Marcel Lequeux and Paul De Klerck (harmony en chamber music).


At the Royal Conservatory of Music in Brussels he then got his masters degree in 1995 with Carlos Bruneel.  


In Amsterdam he specialised in the modern flute techniques and improvisation with Wil Offermans.


He participated at several master classes of international reputed artists as Gaby Van Riet, Emmanuel Pahud, Aurèle Nicolet, Peter-Lukas Graf, Trevor Wye and William Bennet.


As a flutist Steven regularly joins the orchestra of the Flemish Opera. For a period of three years (1998-2001), Steven was a member of the Belle époque Orchestra.


In chamber music he teams up as an ensemble with piano, guitar en harp.


Steven De Baecke regularly gives concerts in Belgium as has performed in Holland, France, Spain and Japan.


Since 1991 he teaches at the academy of music and theatre of Eeklo (departments Zomergem and Waarschoot) and at the academy of music at Oud-Heverlee.


Some study guides ("Spelenderwijs met de fluit" edited by Euprint Heverlee, for example) for apprentice flutists are also by his hand.
