Vitrail de la Basilique de KoekelbergBasilique du Sacré Coeur à Koekelbergle sceau de la Société

In this year 2005, the national basilica of the Sacred Heart in Koekelberg (Brussels) celebrates the 100° anniversary of the start of its construction. In the choir, series of stainglasses present apostels of the worship to the Sacred Heart, in Belgium, through the times.

No astonishment to see Saint Madeleine Sophie near saint Mechtilde, at the far right of the choir. This dark styainglass in this discrete place is in accordance with her humility. Didn't she say :"The wound of Jesus' heart is large, there is space for everybody; but we need to be very small to enter deeply in the intimity of this divine Heart" ?

portrait by Savinien Petit
Saint Madeleine Sophie Barat's most resembling portrait.

It has been painted after her death by a friend, painter Savinien Petit, who based it on the face of the dead and his remembrance.

This portrait was found recently in Rome. From an unknown author, it is particularly living.

Ste Madeleine Sophie (basilique St Pierre, Rome)

On 25 May, we feast Saint Madeleine-Sophie Barat. This year is the year of the 80th anniversary of her canonisation, which was celebrated in Rome on 24 May 1925. Let us make a pause at the entrance of St Peter basilica in Rome, at the bottom of the first pillar on the left of the main nave, which hosts the saints who founded congregations.

The saint holds the book of the Constitutions, the life rule for those who give their life for the glory of Jesus' and Mary's Sacred Hearts. Looking to her, a young maid represents the thousands of children who have been educated at the Sacred Heart to discover the Love of God revealed in Jesus. A small angel presents the old logo of the Society: Jesus' and Mary's Sacred Hearts.

Exactly one week before St Madeleine Sophie Barat, on 17 May 1925, Pie XI, amongst 23 cardinals and 250 bishops proceeded to the canonisation of St Theresa de l'Enfant Jésus.
