De rechte  y = 2x − 6  snijdt de x-as in  A(3, 0) en de y-as in B(0, − 6).
Driehoek OAB is rechthoekig in O.
De schuine zijde AB heeft richtingscoëfficiënt   − 6/−3 = 2
De hoogtelijn uit O op AB heeft dus een richtingscoëfficiënt van −½
Die rechte heeft dus   y = −½x   als vergelijking
