Farewells of the 5TTr
and creation of the 5 Gp Cis

On May 5, 2003, during a military ceremony on the prestigious Grand Place of Tournai, took place the farewells to our dear 5th TTr Battalion.
President P. VANORMELINGEN and the board of directors of Frater attended this moving ceremony.

The parade took place in the presence of many guests among whom Mr Massy, Burgomaster of the town of Tournai, and the military authorities General of Aviation DE WINTER, General D'HOLLANDER and Colonel GOORIS.
Some detachments of CIS (Communication and Systems Information) sisters units - 2nd, 4th, 6th and 10th - as well as a detachment of the 41e French Transmission Regiment attended this ceremony.
The men of the 5 TTr left us under the applause of the audience and the military participants.
At 05.55 PM, it was mission accomplished for Lt-Col BEM J-P DEVOS who had set up the new unit in St-Jean quarters in Tournai. After his speech of farewell, we attended the recognition of the 5th Gp CIS.
Followed the nomination of the 5 Gp CIS commander, Major BEM MENNECIER P. (from Tournai!), and the installation of the officers of the new unit: Adjutant Chief NOTREDAME W as Corps adjutant and 1st Corporal Chief GILMANT J as Corps Corporal.
At last, the flag of the 5th Signal Battalion was given to the guard of the 5 Gp CIS.
Then a reception brought together all the guests in the Halle aux Draps of the city of Tournai.
