| Dear SCRABBLE® friends,
Since 1992 Flanders (the Dutch-speaking part of Belgium)
has a SCRABBLE®-league (the NTSV), which 28 clubs have
joined. The associations organise local play-nights
weekly or fortnightly. Some clubs schedule
interclubmeetings in cooperation with the league.
Representatives of all associations attend those
meetings. The highlight of the SCRABBLE®-season are the
championships for individuals and for teams.
In Flanders SCRABBLE® is played according
to the duplicate method. The instructor draws seven
letter-cubes from the supply and calls them out. Every
player takes these letters out of his box and gets three
minutes time for reflection. After two and a half minutes
a signal is given and the players write their solutions
on the appropriate piece of paper, which is to be handed
in immediately. A jury checks words and combinations and
announces the zero scores. The word or the combination
with the highest score appears on the giant
scrabble-boards in front of the hall. Each player, who
naturally keeps his own points, follows this example,
hence the duplicate method of playing. If any
letter-cubes are left, they are added to the supply. The
blank cubes are only replaced if possible after the
counting and then added to the supply again. The
