how to make a petticoat?

this way of making is only for petticoats till 60cm.~_^ if you like to make a longer one, than you'll have to do it differtend.

(white fabric is is a real petticoat and the colored one is just an example on schale 1:2)

width of the fabricis 1m40 or 1m50 wide.

1. measure the length of your (full cirkel)skirt (example: 40cm)
2. devide that by 4 (example: 40cm : 4 = 10cm)
3. than add 2 cm for hem and seams (example: 10cm + 2cm = 12cm) => that will be the hight for the lenghts of fabric to cut.
4. cut those pieces:

* lenght 1 = 1 time the width of the fabric.
* lenght 2 = 2 times the width of the fabric.
* lenght 3 = 4 times the width of the fabric.
* lenght 4 = 8 times the width of the fabric.

the cut lenghts of fabric, ready to make 1 layer for your petticoat.

5. we can put everthing together now.
6. cut the elastic (is quite wide with a frill on the bottomside, special for this) to size and make it as a ring.
7. make all the lenghts of fabric as a ring, bij sewing the short side together.

8. make, at the bottom of ring 4 a rollhem, with or without fishtreat for extra flair.

9. if the fabric frey, overlock (or zig-zag) the rest of the edges, so everything is nicely finished.

10. sew a lose treat on to topside from rings 2, 3 & 4 for gathering the fabric.

gatheringtreat is in place, ready to put the lenghts together.

11. now we are going to put the rings together, starting at ring 4 to ring 3.

12. ring 3 to ring 2 & ring 2 to ring 1.

13. now that the first layer is finished, you van repeat it another time or even 2 times for a very wide petticoat.
14. when al the layers are finished, you can sew them, one by one, to the elastic.

elastic is pinned.			first layer is attached to the elastic.

second layer is done and sewn to the elastic.				a petticoat.from 3 layers

15. now your petticoat is done.
