Sampler CDS are usually issued by record companies to promote multiple artists from their label.  Each artist is represented by one or more songs / snippets. Some of the major labels issue these CDS on a regular basis, mostly once a month (Sony Japan, Warner Music Canada, ...). Secondly there are some (mainly US based) companies that specialize and do not but releasing samplers. For example Promo Only or TM Century. Finally some samplers will be issued by magazines as a free CD with the monthly issue. For example Hard Force (France), Rock Sound (Spain, Portugal) or Kerrang (US) All these samplers are promos which is mostly noted on both CD and insert. Just like other promo CDS these are sent out to radio stations, press, large music stores, etc. So apart from the magazine samplers, nothing listed here below was / is available in your local store. Most promotional only releases are made for radio or retail VIPs, but this was issued strictly for distribution within WEA, and even then it only went to management, as it was handed out at their annual manager’s conference.
