Cabside: Cabside No. 9 KFR268 £7, Cabside No. 15 KFR269 £6, BCDR cast metal Locomotive Numberplate 'BCDR 5'. As carried by a 2-4-2 tank loco built by Beyer Peacock in 1896 (Works No. 3854). New to Traffic July 1896. Became UTA No. 5 in 1948. Withdrawn Nov. 1949 and sold for scrap. No. 5 was a 5'-3" gauge type 8 Class 5 locomotive and was one of only 6 in the class. They were employed on Belfast-Holywood and Belfast-Dundonald suburban services. Nos. 5, 7 and 27 survived to the formation of the UTA but the other class members Nos. 8, 28 and 29 (all built in 1897) were withdrawn in 1925, 1937 and 1923 respectively. Originally the locos had oval brass numberplates but were changed to the style we have here about 1920. This plate although fractured in two is in totally ex-loco condition and a considerable rarity as many BCDR plates were replaced with UTA cast aluminium examples. The right rear edge has been notched presumably to clear tankside rivet heads. 383x252mm TRA609 £320, BCDR cast metal loco tankside numberplate 'BCDR 7' as carried by a 2-4-2T loco built by Beyer Peacock in 1896 (Works No. 3853) TRA909 £620.
